Forms a stem up to 2 m tall with huge leaves which can be up to 2 m in diameter. Inflorescence consists of ruby fibre. This rare and decorative gunnera is the endemit from the Robinson Crusoe Island in the Juan Fernandez Islands off the Chile coast where it grows in damp protected areas. It is not known in cultivation. It grows best in colder climate.
