Small to middle-sized deciduous tree from the west coast of Madagascar, up to 12 m tall in nature. 3-5 palmate dark green leaves have got crenated edges. Thick, usually relatively short bottle-shaped trunk up to 5 m in diameter with red-brown bark and compact thin treetop. Decorative big aromatic up to 28 cm long yellow (orange) and purple flowers with distinctive golden stamen. Edible, round or longish fruit with red-brown hairs. It is one of the oldest trees on our planet. Endemic to Madagascar.
